Which genre in the world turned out to be the best for me.

Even though Forestless has been in the works since 2022, I didn't focus on the genre at the start. I put mechanics first and built everything from there. Since I was still learning the ropes of game design, I had help from a former colleague.

A year in, I pivoted toward Cozy Fantasy because I adore that sweet, comfy vibe. I also had a huge library of suitable assets (and bought even more). Later, I discovered the 'Hopepunk' genre, which has been around since roughly 2017. It perfectly describes the path I’m taking with the Forestless franchise.

I’m just not into grimdark games. Maybe it’s because life is heavy enough as it is, and we tend to look for the emotions we’re lacking in reality.

The market used to be all about the 'tough and dark' Dark Fantasy era when Dark Souls blew up. That vibe isn't usually for me, but I actually love Lies of P. It still manages to have cozy moments, and the lore really draws me in.
